Launch of Chancery Legal Ltd.
September 1, 2016Chancery Legal Ltd., a newly structured law firm based on Reid Street in Hamilton opens its doors today.
The boutique law firm will specialize in the areas of litigation (both civil and criminal), matrimonial and family, real estate, probate, along with gaming and shipping. The new firm has six attorneys of significant and varied experience, namely Mathew Kelly, Katie Richards, Mark Pettingill, Shawn Crockwell, Dennis Dwyer and Grant Spurling who are supported by their trusted administrative team.
Katie Richards, Director of Matrimonial and Family said, “I am excited to be part of this new firm. We are a dynamic legal team offering a fresh approach to legal services. We have all had successful careers working in large firms on the Island. We decided to join forces to create our own law firm to offer a more flexible and personal approach to clients.” Katie has earned an excellent reputation both locally and internationally regularly advising high net worth individuals in complex divorce proceedings as well as assisting clients as a member of the Collaborative Law Alliance in Bermuda.
Mark Pettingill and Shawn Crockwell will head up the Litigation department and bring to the firm a vast amount of courtroom experience. During his career Mark has successfully handled many high profile criminal and civil court cases and was a founding partner of Wakefield Quin Ltd. He was appointed Attorney General in 2012 and subsequently established his own legal firm, Pettingill & Co. Ltd. Mark said “Given the growth of my practice I decided to join forces with the other attorneys to form Chancery Legal Ltd. We are an innovative team offering a results driven approach.” Shawn Crockwell is a highly respected litigation advocate having worked previously at MJM Ltd. Prior to joining the firm, Shawn served as Minister of Tourism Development and Transport.
Mathew Kelly, Director of Real Estate said, “The unique aspect of our firm is to offer every client a partner led service. Each director works closely with a client to ensure highly personalized and responsive advice. The firm’s ethos is to be accessible and importantly to deal with matters in a cost effective manner.” Mathew has extensive experience in a range of property transactions covering both commercial and residential deals. He acts for both local and international clients. Mathew initially worked at Wakefield Quin Ltd when he came to Bermuda and after six years of practicing on Island he has built up a strong reputation and client base.
Grant Spurling is an associate in the litigation department and has a growing reputation for his advocacy skills and his attention to detail after previously working at Appleby. He also advises on corporate administration and compliance matters and is widely considered as an up and coming counsel in legal circles.
The firm also benefits from the experience of Dennis Dwyer, a senior consultant who specializes in litigation (covering civil, commercial, corporate and reinsurance) and insolvency along with probate and trust related matters. He has over 40 years’ experience and was also a founding partner of Wakefield Quin Ltd.
